31/1/12 'Delayed by the view' and a momentary lack of focus!
Taken on Sunday morning on my way to play the organ for a special communion service. I pulled of the road into the entrance of a field.... mistake number one, I should have kept the car on the road and walked to the vantage point. I hastily took the shots not noticing the lens had got slightly fogged due to the temperature change, mistake two. Now probably the biggest mistake, my little red MG is not really the best of 'off-road' machines and reversing back up hill onto the main road just wasn't happening. As a last resort I drove down into the field itself and promptly got well and truly stuck in the mud & frosted grass.
Time to make a few phone calls as the more I tried the deeper the ruts became, first the vicarage to explain I might be delayed.... answer phone! Then local friend who live nearby with access to tractors.... answer phone, answer phone!
Very annoyed with myself, I put on the CD player(Ludovico Einaudi) and offered up a little pray. The sun highlighted my predicament and I fell sure passing traffic might notice, but no, again I switched on the engine and gingerly began coaxing the rear drive wheels to gain traction. Slowly and surely the car moved then alternating back & forth the rocking motion took the traction towards the field entrance. The steep incline back to the road looked incredulous and at this point I decided to give it some welly.... it felt just like a towrope took hold and apart from a brief slightly sideways moment my little MG found its feet back on tarmac.
I arrived at church just in time to hear the first hymn finish.. un-accompanied!
Lesson learnt? erm... well... maybe ;-)
